Max. memory size for 32 bit binaries in amd64/x86

IA32 emulation in the kernel (2.4.23-pre5-k8-smp-64gb-devfs-raid-ext3)
for amd64/x86 does not allow 32-bit binaries to use more than 1GB,
although 64 bit binaries can use more than 2GB.

Is there no way to use more than 1GB in 32 bit binaries?

(There is no config parameter such as CONFIG_HIGHMEM for amd64.)
