Any port would be able to run both 64-bit and 32-bit apps with an appropriate kernel. A 64-bit only port would need to have a separate i386 system in a chroot to do this. A multi-arch port would be able to install i386 .debs natively alongside amd64 ones, with (presumably) the amd64 ones being preferred by apt where they exist. Cameron.
