I did at one time attempt to build milo myself, and still have the build
dir lying around. However, that was a 2.2 version.
Of course, the only reason to want to build milo against 2.6 is to
support hardware to boot from that is only supported by 2.6; there's no
problem whatsoever booting 2.6 with a 2.2 milo (I do that).
