Short answer, no.

The "U" machines were originally sold to be able to run Digital UNIX
(aka Tru64 UNIX) and OpenVMS as well as Windows NT. The non-"U" machines
were officially Windows NT only. The main difference was the graphics
cards and I/O controllers that the machines could be configured with.
For instance, you would never find an Adaptec SCSI controller in a Miata
(the code name for the 433/500/600A[U] machines) while a "NT Only"
system might.

If you had devices supported by all three, you could run any of them on
the same box.

Linux should be able to handle any of them AU or not, with the exception
of some high end (at the time) 3D graphics cards that never had Linux
drivers released (Intergraph and Evans & Sutherland OEM'ed cards). You'd
have to swap one of those for a supported card like a Radeon.
