Re: Boot without auto-starting X

Stop at SRM Prompt, boot into aboot with the Flag "-fl i" and give the
boot command by hand adding a plain "1" at the end of the boot line to
boot only until runlevel 1. In /etc/X11/default-display-manager you can
comment out the starting line for your login manager. Like this you end
up at the login prompt of getty.

Quick question. I was trying to upgrade the kernel on an Lx-164,
and somehow lost my mouse. I was messing with /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 and
now have lost my keyboard! Is their anyway to stop it during the boot,
before it auto launches X, so I can fix it?
Thanks in advance...

It worked! Thanks for your suggestions! I normally boot using this line in my aboot.conf: 4:2/vmlinuz-2.6.11-1-generic ro initrd=/initrd.img-2.6.11-1-generic /root=/dev/hda3 so I added a 1 to the end and booted from 4:2/vmlinuz-2.6.11-1-generic ro initrd=/initrd.img-2.6.11-1-generic /root=/dev/hda3 1 and it booted to run level 1. Then I was able to run /usr/X11R6/bin/xf86config again.
