No, I would not say that. Linux supports many more devices than SRM.

This was a PWS right? I don't think you'll find an U160 controller that
SRM will see. However there's nothing to stop you from putting in U160
controller but actually placing the kernel on a different device (ex:
Floppy, IDE Disk, SCSI disk on another controller, or even pull the kerenl over the
network).
