It's the onboard NIC you are using with the de245x (I think) driver?

The card seems to be very bad media at autonegotiation. Take a look at the
piece on the Ruffian on linuxalpha.org

Although I've fiddled with the driver to force it to use 100 mbps full
duplex and all the appropriate lights light up on my switch, performance
is well below that of the same card being forced into 10 mbps. At one
point, it was around 50-60KB/sec for large files.

The faq recommends getting a recent kernel and even changing the ports
on the hub. Didn't work for me, but ymmv.
