rescue!
hi
dave with his flake miata again....
i have a fully installed system. it is set to start x
on boot-up (xdm?) of course, it hangs hard as it tries
to start x. no ctl/alt/F1
i have become good at the rescue disk, the ae editor, etc.
it hangs if i specify /dev/psaux for the mouse. i was trying
a known good mouse. i was able to bring it back up by
changing back to busmouse and /dev/ttyS1... it just fails
in startup and goes to a console login.
i notice that this known good mouse (optical) fails to lite up
its led when plugged into a serial port. the error reported:
Fatal server error:
Cannot open mouse (No such file or directory)
even tho the devices are there. however, the device looks like:
crw-rw---- 1 root dialout 4, 65 Nov 25 2000 /dev/ttyS1
do we have a permission problem? a group problem? i think so...
thanks for bearing with me.
dave
