Hi Dave,
Perhaps you ought to reseat the logic board into the
riser; this resolved a few issues on my Miata.
Your mouse: try a different mouse (if you haven't
already done so) or check whether gpm is running -
I've had problems with the mouse under X with gpm.
So far as disabling xdm, the default runlevel is
indicated in /etc/inittab (on mine it's runlevel 2).
You can remove/rename the symlink in /etc/rcN.d (where
N is the runlevel) for xdm so it won't start when your
Miata is booted... Ah yes, you can also do this with
gpm as well.
A 3com ethernet adapter will work if you insmod the
kernel module or build it into your kernel. SRM
doesn't recognize 3com adapters so far as I know.
