The AlphaServer 800 5/400 requires memory in two banks of four. I tried
what you suggest, but it will not boot at all w/o having a fully
populated memory bank. I ordered a new set of four sticks, so I can
replace whichever is bad, and have three spares for the future.

lifecycles they tell you about in CompSci classes.
