The impossibility of Raid1 - Part 2

Well having not had enough punishment for a while I thought I'd try to
get raid1 working again on my alpha. The last time I tried was around
kernel 2.4.8 days so surely it works by now.

I can safely say that for my setup it doesn't for me with IDE disks and
kernel 2.4.18
Usually the mkraid works but it either crashes in the mkfs or mount
stages. The only good thing is I got XFS working on a non-raid
partition, it seems ok.

kernel: md: mkfs.xfs(pid 1103) used obsolete MD ioctl, upgrade your software to use new ictls.
kernel: Unable to handle kernel paging request at virtual address 0000000000000000
kernel: mkfs.xfs(1103): Oops -1

I still cannot reboot the damn thing without it locking up when it
starts to reboot (around where the SRM prompt would be). That's even
more annoying than not having raid1.
