Weird javascript problem?

Hello,
I have some javascript that calculates the md5sum of a word. It's
used in things like encrypting passwords etc. Anyhow it works fine on
my i386 netscpae and i386 IE on the windows box.

Running Galeon on the alpha, the md5sum is always a series of 0 and 8's
no other numbers or letters. I was wondering why this would be the
case. I'm not sure if it is an alpha problem, a gaelon problem or
a galon on the alpha problem.

There is a test page at
