The linux kernel is not as forgiving as the *BSD kernel, mostly because
we've gotten farther in porting than they have (many apologies if this
offends the BSD folks, but it's true...we support more machine types).

Either way, if you're happy with *BSD, then that's great :-)  If you're
technically aware of how the BSD kernel works on Alpha, I'd be interested
in hearing their approach to machine check situations since it appears
that we, on the Linux side, are not doing a good enough job at letting the
users know what's going on with their systems.
