I've had problems anytime compiling a kernel without runnin it
as root or through sudo... In my case I was hoping someone had pbuilder
which would allow me to build in a chroot while I work'd the configuration
out before building a kernel-image .DEB file I could download to the
local computer to install... I've found pbuilder requires root privs to
initiate... Or else the install I have from the .DEB is incorrect...

Unfortunately most of my machines are in need of being spoiled
to give them more RAM and harddrive space as well as other upgrades... I
had to build their kernels on a machine at work that I can't NFS mount
to because of the firewall...
