I've booted off of a rescue floppy with the 2.2.12 kernel as you
suggested, but I have (at least) one question left: How do you install the
2.2.12 kernel and modules to the hard disk so that when the system reboots
after the base installation you're good to go?  I'm assuming that the base
system contains the copy of the kernel and modules that actually get
installed.
