Thanks, Ron!
I didn't specify "load_ramdisk=1" in the first place,
because I thought that it was not necessary (the
"No init found" kernel panic appeared *after* I was
prompted to insert the floppy holding the RAM disk image).
Trying out "load_ramdisk=1" I get another error message
after inserting the root floppy.
"RAMDISK: Couldn't find valid RAM disk image starting
at 0"
This is with a FAT formatted floppy to which I copied
root.bin from disks-alpha/2.2.16-2000-07-17/images-1.44/.
Despite of it's size (smaller than 1440 kB) I tried to
create the root image disk using dd, but with no luck
(another kernel panic after inserting it). I suspect
both attempts to create the root floppy were wrong.
In the mailing list archive I read something about an
updated potato release. My CD identifies itself as
2.2 r0 "Potato" - Official alpha Binary-1. Should I
try to boot/install with a more recent root floppy?
