Just for fun, have you tried compiling the kernel as "generic"? This
looks like a general kernel problem, perhaps you want to cross post this
to AlphaLinux.org's axp-hardware list or redhat's axp-list and see if
there is anyone with the same system (I don't have one) that knows what
the deal is?
