Try them as root.  Admittedly, I haven't given either of them a shot
lately, so they may have been fixed.

FYI, I downloaded a newer version of nmap and it's working fine when
compiled from those sources.  Perhaps we should just lobby for a new
version.  I can try to backport the compatibility fixes, though, if
needed.
