I've heard that you really want a 2.2 kernel with Alpha.

FWIW, we've got an Intel production mail server here on slink (I'd
recommend that if stability is your #1 goal) using S/W RAID-1 with two
9 gig SCSI drives also.  Get a 2.2.* kernel and the RAID patches (don't
have the URL on me).
