Alpha and MatroxFB

Has anybody on this list managed to get the matrox-frambuffer of
recent 2.2.x-kernels running on an alpha-machine?

I am using a noname-board with a matrox mystique 220/4MB/PCI, kernel
2.2.13.

When built into the kernel, matroxfb immidiatly freezes the system on
boot, without displaying any error message. Build as a module,
"modprobe matroxfb" also freezes the system, its not even pingable any
more.

Any ides?
