Recently when I have run apt-get I have noticed that my system starts thrashing and eventually it locks up. I checked top during this time and found that update-menus starts running immediately after apt. It starts out using 240MB of memory and eventually consumes all of the ram and swap space in my machine. What can I do to prevent this? Luke Shulenburge (sluke@mit.edu)
