XF86_SVGA Cirrus Logic CL-GD5424 chipset support?

Hi,

I've recently installed Debian GNU/Linux 2.1 (slink) on an
Alphastation 255/300 (avanti). I've run into a snag in the
XFree86 server configuration and hope that someone can help
out.

The machine has a Digital 3D20 graphics card, which is based on the
Cirrus Logic CL-GD5424 chipset. This implies that the

  xserver-svga.deb (version 3.3.2.3a-11)

package should support it, as indeed the info window in deselect
suggests:

... Chips & Technologies, Cirrus Logic, Compaq,...

However there appears only to be five configured chipset drivers
for the XF86_SGVA server, as "X -probeonly" reports:

XFree86 Version 3.3.2.3 / X Window System
(protocol Version 11, revision 0, vendor release 6300)
Release Date: July 15 1998
If the server is older than 6-12 months, or if your card is newer
than the above date, look for a newer version before reporting
        problems. (see http://www.XFree86.Org/FAQ)
Operating System: Linux 2.2.0 alpha [ELF]
Configured drivers:
SVGA: server for SVGA graphics adaptors (Patchlevel 0):
      mga2064w, mga1064sg, mga2164w, mga2164w AGP, s3_virge
(using VT number 7)

[.... clipped]

1R6/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi/"
(--) SVGA: PCI: Digital Unknown chipset (0x000d) rev 34, Memory @ 0x05000000

*** None of the configured devices were detected.***

Is there an alpha XFree86 server that will support the CL-GD5424 chipset?
Any suggestions as to what to do?
