This does seem to work, thanks!  From Loic's/Darren's note (included
below), it seems like a more permanent solution would be to fix the perl
source. 

To Darren/Torin/Who Ever:  I submitted the original im bug report.  Is
there any way to get it reassigned to the perl, or should a new one be
opened?  The reference number is 34948.
