why aren't these packages in the alpha distribution?

I'm thinking of converting our server to an alpha, and checked whether
the packages we use are available on the alpha. I came up with these
missing:

amd
f2c
g77
ghostview
gs-aladdin
gv
joe
lapack*
libtiff3
ncftp
octave
oleo
pine
pixmap
scilab
svgalib1
transfig
unzip
wdiff
xcontrib
xfig
xkeycaps
xloadimage
xv
xxgdb
zip

Why aren't they available? Is it just a matter of someone compiling
them? Some are available in Red Hat.

Also, which machine is beezer?

Carlos
