Unaligned trap handling is broken in all alpha-patches from gatekeeper
(in fact it is broken in the em86 patches, which are included in
alpha-patches), although it's been a known problem since
alpha-patches-2.0.30-0.1. See
genie.ucd.ie:/pub/alpha/kernel/my_patches/traps.diff.

These unaligned accesses from MAKEDEV are certainly bad (though of
course they shouldn't be dangerous to the kernel health), but there is
no easy way to get rid of them except to resort to the old MAKEDEV
script. I haven't checked the newest version, though.
