RE: Desktop accessibility

Hi:

I tested by installing jessie in a VM.
I installed by using the latest jessie iso and debian installer beta1.

Installation went smoothly.
I chose to install Debian Desktop Environment and standard system packages (category 1 and 10).

I expected to then have a choice of which desktop environment to install but that didn't happen.

Installation completed successfully and the VM rebooted.

No speech, so I ended up with a completely inaccessible system.

I tried pressing ctrl+alt+f1 to go to a text console but did not hear Speakup either.

I then installed a new VM but did not install a Desktop environment and I got speech when the system booted up to the text console.

Hi,

XFCE seems to have a minimal a11y with Orca, that is tested now. So any feedback is good. If I remember correctly, the http://wiki.debian.org/accessibility mentions all you need to make XFCE accessible. Tell us if it is enough. Debian is wondering is they will use by default gnome, xfce, lxde, kde, cinnamon or MATE and do a benchmarking of DE to have a better idea. But we lack of feedback about their accessibility.

Tell us if the wiki helps, if you get XFCE working and if it is enough.
It will enable to have several points of view.

Regards,
