Confusingly, I sent two kernel binaries with the same patch level. But you
can tell them apart from the banner (also /proc/version):

If I understand correctly, you've only observed two possible outcomes:
either a hang shortly after "ABCFGHIJK" or else "kernel BUG at
block/deadline-iosched.c".
Does those outcomes apply to both of these kernel binaries, given the same
Penguin settings etc?

If it is an issue, I've never heard of it. I regularly use Penguin on a
Powerbook with 12 MB RAM.
