Re: All things come to an end

Thorsten,

sorry to hear that - you have done an outstanding job in getting m68k back on track,

Good luck with your other projects, and a heartfelt thanks for all the hard workj you've done!

Cheers,

Michael

Hi *,

I’m now doing the step I had wanted to do over a year ago already:
I’ll take a step back from doing any Debian/m68k work, and leave it
back to the porters.

My intention, right from the start, was to get things along until
they could continue, mostly on their own, the rest with help from
the porters.

I’ve come to the conclusion that I need to concentrate on my core
projects – to which Debian/m68k never belonged, by several measures
– for some time now, but I… feel now is the time to do it.

I’ll continue running the ara5 buildd for as long as I can keep
the domU it runs on, and I’ve been volunteered to hold a talk at
this year’s VCFe, so this isn’t the last thing you hear from me,
but officially I’m mostly out now.

Outstanding major things:

• need porting: mozjs (and the old ports for webkitgtk, for libproxy)

• need fixing: ghc, guile 2.0, php 5.5

• gcc-4.8 currently doesn't run autoreconf in several subdirectories,
causing the -fpic problem to not go away; I’ve got several vague
ideas but no concrete patch, and I’ve not yet reported this in the
BTS, only by emailing directly, which I should have avoided

• I never got around doing any work on the bootloaders (most of
which are moved into unreleased for the sole reason that they
don’t build a !m68k package)
atari-bootstrap
atari-fdisk
emile (this needs to be redone)
m68k-vme-tftplilo
m68kboot
vmelilo
vmelilo-installer
Note that mac-fdisk is built for powerpc and thus lives in sid

• lots of testsuite failures ;-)

Lots of packages need their fixes be submitted upstream, but
I did that for all core packages already. Be quick on the GCC
things, if you do then the maintainer will be nice to work with,
and we do carry quite a number of patches (so try to get at least
every second GCC version supported _well_, and try to use the same
versions for e.g. kernel compiles as the other arches do).

I don’t think I have any outstanding patches etc. that need to be
made productive, though – everything should be in unreleased (do
debdiffs) or submitted/backported.

Do not expect the *freewrt.org* stuff to stay around for long.
I won’t delete the stuff I uploaded to people.d.o though; if there
is something of mine you miss there, tell me, and I’ll push it there.

bye,
//mirabilos
