The reason for it not finding the harddisk is that it already can't find
the IDE controller. Your IDE hardware is unknown to the kernel.

The IDE controllers on A1200 and A4000 are not exactly the same, they
don't map to the same memory location to begin with.

You'll have to find out where the registers are mapped for this
controller, and add an auto-detection entry to the Amiga part of the
kernel (I'm assuming the board is Zorro compatible).

You also need to add support for it to the Gayle driver (if it's really
as compatible as you are saying).

To summarise: you'll have to modify the kernel to make this work.
