Cheapbytes only sells CD's. No downloads ;-)

Do you happen to have an 68LC040?

Some of those are broken when handling pagefaults during an FPU-interrupt
or something likewise, and the result is what you describe. Search the
archives of comp.os.linux.m68k if you want the details.

The only solution is to replace the broken LC040 with a working one, or
better yet, with a full 68040.
