Quit honestly I believe this is a kernel bug. The newer libc for m68k is
compiled against 2.4.x kernel headers, which means that LFS is enabled.
My guess is that LFS support in the m68k 2.4.x kernel is broken (which
wouldn't break 2.2.x kernels).

Get libc recompiled against 2.2.x kernel headers, and try that on 2.4.x.
If it works, then get one of the m68k maintainers to recompile libc in
this way.
