Looks like my testing methodology was flawed.

Just running

cd /root/glibc/glibc-2.2.1/m68k-linux/obj/elf/
./ld.so /bin/ls

still segfaults, but

LD_LIBRARY_PATH=.. ./ld.so /bin/ls

works.

The ld.so built with the newer gcc/binutils is identical to the
one in the 2.2.1-1 package in the distribution. But I copied over
the rebuilt libc.so.6 (to libc-2.2.1.so) into my woody chroot,
and now bash runs where previously it would segfault. So
there is definately an improvement.

It's still running the tests.

Next I could try 2.2.2-1.
