I wouldn't expect to see error messages on the console, but they should
be showing up in /var/log/syslog. Have a look in /etc/ppp/peers and see
if there is a config file there for 'ecity.net'. You may find the
config has been put in /etc/ppp/peers/provider instead, in which case
'pon' with no arguments may do the trick for you.

I presume these ports need a kernel module to handle them. Check
/etc/modules to make sure it is being loaded on startup.
