Yes, this is quite odd, as I tested the driver fairly thorougly
(running an NFS root installation :) on my now-departed Quadra 650,
and the Q650 is basically a Q800 on its side.

Hm, I did not know about that.  This could well be the problem.

No, that wouldn't be it, there's no chance of this since the SONIC is
big-endian in all configurations on the Mac (yes, even the 16-bit ones :)
