debian slink upgrade ...

Hello, ...

yesterday i finally installed my amiga again after coming back from oldenburg, catching up with normal life, work and sleep :).

so i wanted to install window maker, and had this problem that i already had some times before, that is the dpkg tries to create a symlink before the corresponding file is actually installed, there it complains and stops. usually this can be solved by looking which file is the target of the symlink, touching it and begining again the undpkging process, no problem for small packages with not so much symlinks, but very anoying in another case.

so ui thought maybe my old hamm/unstable from april or so is not so nice, so i got to the archive i downloaded at oldenburg, got to slink/main/binary-m68k/base and did a dpkg -i *.deb. (i know i should use apt ...)

here are the results from it :

there where some dependencie problem who got away when i installed the package a second time (since the depending packages where installed later on).

both ppp and netbase add one level to much of .. appended, this works ok on the debian archive since there is a symlink from debian/hamm to debian/dists/hamm, but not in my case, i think this is a bug ?

whiptail depends on newt who is not in base but in libs ? is this a bug ?

and still after that wmaker complained about missing symlink target while changing ownership.

but then, wmaker-m68k is very old (0.14.x, source is 0.19.x and 0.20 is out), and it could eb solved in the i386 version. will try compiling it when i have time.

since i am using kernel 2.1.120, i think this is one more incarnation of the chown/lchown problem ? was it not supposed to be fixed ? what's the current status of this ?

also i get a error message at halt time :

unmounting / : device busy.

when i unmount all partition except / and /usr before hamlting, this is not a problem.

Friendly,

Sven LUTHER
