BAD NEWS: Meeting needs another move!
I hate Murphy, but this doesn't help me now :-((. Ok, here's the story:
During the meeting weekend Sep 18-20, precisely on Saturday 19th, most of our
university will got through the annual power maintenance check - this means
a shutdown of almost all computer systems (nameservers, routers etc.) and
power-down for at least a couple of hours, maybe a lot more. It seems as if
this had already been announced in-house in March of this year, but somehow
the responsibles did not see the link to the meeting where we absolutely
depend on power.
So I only got informed of this fact yesterday. We tried to find solutions
today - like moving to another part of the campus or another building -
but these are all either impossible, very vague, or the available room
is too small for us. All alternatives at that date are thus unbearable.
This leaves no other chance but to either cancel the meeting or try to
move it timewise. Moving by one week into the future - that is, the weekend of
September 25th-27th - _is possible_. The room is still available there, and
we immediately reserved that date, even if it's not possible for you to come.
I can imagine some of you might already have booked your plane/train tickets,
and I'm really sorry, but this is something I could not forsee.
Please, anyone who announced to come, check out the new date and tell me
as soon as possible if you would be able to change your plans so you could
come on Sep 25th-27th. If the majority agrees on the new date, I'll move it.
It would be good if you mailed me about your decision until Monday.
