Hi, I'm happy to announce preliminary pal dvds from debconf5. You can find images at http://dc5video.debian.net/dvd/ Beware, the directory layout at http://dc5video.debian.net/ has changed: all directories have been moved to /mpeg/ The pal dvd images were created with v0.9+0.10pre of Ben's script (available at http://womble.decadentplace.org.uk/software/#debconf5-dvd), the current version is v0.11 and does not deal with the new directory layout. Ben will provide a v0.12 tonite or tomorrow. Next weekend I'll upload new pal dvds based on 0.12 or 0.13. The weekend after that I'll upload ntsc dvds. (Minor changes only, see the ChangeLog in Ben's tar archive or quoted partly below.) As usual, we appreciate feedback very very much! :-) If you have bandwidth to burn, download them now :-) Version 1.0 will be released once we know we cannot recover the missing three talks or once we have them. new on 2005-07-16: 01-Altivec_Optimizations_on_Debian_Powerpc-Konstantinos_Margaritis.mpeg 07-Open_Source_in_South_Asia-Jaldhar_Vyas.mpeg 08-Structural_Evolution-Bdale_Garbee.mpeg 09-Ending_Flamewars_With_Polygen-Enrico_Zini.mpeg 12-Debian_Edu_Upgrading_a_Preconfigured_CDD-Petter_Reinholdtsen.mpeg missing on 2005-07-16: 05-Using Debian in hardware with no OSS drivers Manuel Romero (T2) missing on 2005-07-14: 06-Debian-Kernel Team Overview and Status Dann Frazier (T2) needs editing: 03-Debian-Med Andreas Tille (T2) (Contact me if you want to download the raw stream, edit and encode it.) BTW, I'm also working on a permanent place for the slides and papers. You'll be informed here as soon as its ready. Torrents and theoras have also not been forgotten... regards, Holger Quoting README.compatibility from Ben: Check compatibility of DVD players with recordable discs: <http://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers.php> Check compatibility of DVD drives and players with DVD+R/RW: <http://www.dvdplusrw.org/Compatibility.asp> The Playstation 2 seems to be unable to play MPEG layer 2 audio correctly at less than 128 kbps. We now encode at a minimum of 128 kbps to avoid this. Xine has a bug in switching from MPEG-2 video (including menus) to MPEG-1 video (reported as Debian bug #323115.) This can be worked around by selecting titles directly with a command of the form "xine dvd:<device>/<title>" where <device> is the DVD device name and <title> is the title number. Kaffeine and totem use the xine engine and also suffer from this. These are the compatibility issues I've found with discs burned using a Lite-On LDW-411S DVD recorder: - A recent iBook plays DVD+RW but not DVD-R discs. - An older Panasonic DVD player (DVD-RV31) plays DVD+RW but not DVD-R discs. - A recent Samsung DVD-ROM drive (SD-616E) doesn't play either type. - An older Matsushita DVD-ROM drive (SR-8587) doesn't play either type, except that it can play DVD+RW discs with book type set to DVD-ROM. debconf5-dvd (0.11) * Updated compatibility notes * Added box cover design * Changed session titles in menus and box cover to be more consistent with slides and with each other * Re-ordered titles on SL2 and DL discs to match order on box cover * Fixed an additional effect of the dvdauthor bug that appeared after re- ordering * Corrected aspect ratio of session 16/06 * Added brief blackness where there was a break between two parts of a session * Added a chapter mark between the two parts of session 10/02 -- Ben Hutchings <ben@decadentplace.org.uk> Sun, 04 Sep 2005 21:38:21 +0100 debconf5-dvd (0.10) * Included final versions of 16th July sessions and session 6 from July 17th * Reduced video bit rates accordingly * Made minor fixes to menus * Removed filtering of mencoder output as this appears not to work properly in some locales * Removed video buffer limit as it provokes warnings and seems to be pointless -- Ben Hutchings <ben@decadentplace.org.uk> Wed, 31 Aug 2005 17:21:42 +0100
