Having a DebConf close to you is a great incentive for people to start participating in Debian. For example DC4 in Porto Alegre was literally what made me start. We have been organizing several small Debian-related events in Brazil in the last few years to bring more people and that already brought us at least 1 DD and 1 DM, with more to come. Having DC in Brazil again after 14 years would for sure boost the impact of those efforts. On the other hand, we recognize that if Hsinchu were to be chosen, it would be the first DebConf in Asia. That's got to be important, as it was this year with the first DC in Africa. > Have you investigated any options for the day trip? We have a few ideas. Many of the items under "Fun and Free time" and "Original ideas" could be a full day activity, such as the beer making class, or combining a few of the touristic points into a trip. There is also a train trip from Curitiba to the shore, called "Serra Verde Express" that goes through the rain forest and has *amazing* views. You can put "serra verde express" on google images to check it out. There are also places not in Curitiba, but close enough that doing a day trip there is possible, such as baloon rides, visiting a road with several family-owned wineries, etc, Ilha do Mel ("Honey Island"), hiking trails, climbing, etc. > Have any of the local sponsorship companies been contacted? The Brazilian government updated the list in December, changing name of pdf file. We should probably upload a copy to the wiki to avoid future breakage.
