I am not in favor of spending money on sweets (either donuts, or the cookies
offered by the caterer). As Patty says, there is breakfast available if
people want that; I don't see any reason to spend extra money on another
breakfast of lesser quality.

I am in favor of spending money to have coffee and tea on site, if we get
reasonable value for the price. I am not convinced that Aramark's catering
offering is that. I expect the quality to be very poor, and we know the
price appears to be high (depending, again, on how they measure "per
person").

One other possible option I'd like to throw out: there are three coffee
shops within a two block radius of the venue.[1] I know that there is a
food court / market on the first floor of SMSU; it's possible that they have
decent coffee there. Perhaps we could arrange a package deal with one of
these shops, to have the first N drinks or N dollars worth of drinks (per
day or for the week) be paid for by DebConf.

Do those who think we should have a coffee service think this plan is
workable? It's not as convenient as having it on the floor with the
conference, but I think it would provide better value. And if people are
going downstairs and out the building anyway for their coffee, I don't see
any reason to prefer Voodoo Donuts over a real coffee shop.
