There are two sides to the VAT coin:
a) income: there was an email from hug or gaudenz which finally
confirmed that the verein can accept sponsorship payments without
charging VAT. That is positive news, as Swiss VAT is tricky and is not
compatible with the VAT systems of the EU countries.
b) expense: all local expenses will have VAT. Being able to reclaim
that VAT is a very good idea. For expenses like travel sponsorship
(e.g. if the ticket is bought outside Switzerland) there is no Swiss VAT
and maybe the same concern doesn't apply

Maybe, but what if SPI had some money and independently decided to pay
travel sponsorship for some people? As that money has no VAT concerns,
and if the sponsorship was contemplated actively by the SPI board, there
would be no necessity for it to through DC13 would there?
