Hi!

That sounds like great news - But _please_ wait a bit longer on
this. We are working this idea (albeit slowly, but I expect to get
back in gear soon) with the various Central American communities. What
I have been talking with them is that we should get the different
communities' proposals.

(Rest of the readers: If you are interested in further background,
please ask...)

To be honest, I believe the Panama proposal is on some portion
overqualified for what we are in position ot achieve, and on some
portion has overexpectations. Why?

The current idea we have discussed with Central Americans after ECSL
is to first build a stronger Debian community, beyond being just users
into stepping towards contributing.

What has been so far talked is that we would hold a small,
community-minded gathering, maybe with 30 or so people, over a
weekend. The attendees would include some DDs, mainly of the region
(i.e. Central American countries plus Mexico, Colombia,
Venezuela... Maybe even a bit further, but that'd be the approximate
impact area).

This is in the hope of building, as I said, a stronger community, with
more participation and visibility in Debian. I know some Central
Americans will not have an easy time getting a visa for the US, but I
would expect some of them to be present at DC10. And to bid for a DC12
in Central America.

I think that, given what we have talked so far, the Panama bid is
overqualified for the small meeting we will have at this point (and as
I told Mauro, it would be burning a good bid a bit too early.

Greetings,
