My apologies.  I had wrongly assumed that none of the phones being "willing to play in Canada" meant that none of them supported Canadian frequencies.  And the recent discontinuation of 2G by some North American carriers may lead people to believe that 2G might not be available in Canada (indeed it very soon might not be), at which point the 3G and LTE band differences with other parts of the world become more problematic (making a lack of frequency compatibility more likely than for 2G).

I may have a spare phone that you could borrow (with the usual mini-SIM slot), though I won't know for sure until later this week once I've gone through some boxes.  In any case, I will inform you if I find it.  Again, my apologies for making assumptions about what you were saying.
