Just to be clear,

- debconf sponsorship is not the same as the social contract, because
the social contract does not oblige us to promote the users of Debian,
whereas sponsorship agreements do involve promotion (including T-shirts
that everybody will happily wear for a week)

- many countries have laws against advertising by companies that are in
controlled industries and this would restrict their impact on DebConf anyway

- I've started a discussion within the debconf-sponsors-team about the
long term way to deal with these issues. If people have new ideas about
it or can provide examples of how it has been solved elsewhere, please
post them to us:

debconf-sponsors-team@lists.debconf.org

but please avoid attacking individual companies at this stage, if we
iterate over all the naughty things certain companies around the world
have done, we could fill the list archives very quickly.
