Hi,
the venue(s) dont have a suitable wireless setup for us, so we'll
need to set
up our own. For this purpose we have plenty (30) of APs which will
need to be
flashed (aka installed) and distributed on site and then moved again
and
again, to optimize the signal quality :-)
We wont need all 30 APs, I assume for MT 10-15 will be enough, while
for FdS 2
or 3 should be fine.
We have three modells to deploy, though I suggest to only use 2:
- 15 fonera1 (some new, some used)
- 12 bufallo airstation g54 (brand new, unopened :)
- 4 fonera2
I suggest not to use the fonera2s, as we only have few of them. Also
people
can use them to get d-i working on them :-)
The bufallos have 5 lan ports, so they are best distributed in
peoples room
(where we (=you) will need to lay cat5 cables too...), while the
foneras
(which only have 1 lan port) should be placed where we dont want
people to
plug in extra cables, like the talk rooms and such.
I suggest to install OpenWRT on all of them, as it supports all
hardware and
because we have documentation for it already and because I'm familar
with it,
so I can help if needed.

instructions on
building kamikaze, the latest OpenWRT release, as well as info how
to flash
the foneras. I dunno how to flash the bufallos yet, but I'm sure its
documented somewhere on the web :)
If you want to help, you should obviously arrive at DebCamp early
and you will
need to work together with the admin team :-)
