I won't be able to interrail this year (although I'd love to share the
fun with that!), but having done that, here's a clue: if you cross from
Denmark instead, and precisely at Helsingør(DK)-Helsinborg(SE), the
ferry should be free for pedestrians (which includes interrailers).

At least it was in 1999.

Other tips I recall:

 - if you spend the night in Trondheim(NO), look for the round red house
(http://www.samfundet.no/english.php), which is a cool student
society which becomes an Interrail Center in summer (http://www.tirc.no/)
It's cool, cheap and has internet connection as well.

 - If you visit the Lofoten islands in a group, it's a nice option to
forget about the youth hostels and sleep in the Rorbua (spelling?),
which is the fishermen huts (kind of like this:
http://www.vega-ferie.no/utleie.htm). This also allows to stay a
while in the southernmost part of the islands, which was extremely
   beautiful

 - In 1999, if you traveled in a gruop and contacted with at least a
week of advance the tourist office in Gällivare (www.gellivare.se),
they could arrange you to spend a week in the mountains with the
   Sami.

Asking other travelers in the northern trains and stations also brings
you a lot of useful tips.
