Re: Some thoughts ...

Hi Bernelle (2014.10.23_15:49:53_+0200)

Sorry, I haven't been paying attention to this list's mail.

Yes, they don't have to be. But there are a few reasons why it would be
convenient.

We ideally want accommodation within walking distance of the venue, and
it's unlikely that there'd be multiple venues in walking distance.

The video team needs some time to set up equipment, and this typically
happens during the second half of DebCamp.

But, of course, we wouldn't need all the rooms during debcamp, that we
need during the conference. And we could probably negotiate cheaper hire
rate for the setup days.

The "Strictly no smoking, but has a smoking area" bit confused me. It's
a big disadvantage, but maybe not a definite no.

That said, I think we currently have better options, so we can put them
on the backburner.

Yeah, there are a lot of Debian users in Cape Town, and that's a common
feeling amongst Linux users. (It took me about 10 years of that feeling
before the now came around).

I'd expect this conference to be the pushing-over-the-edge for a few
people.

Yeah, the hiring angle is probably going to be a big one for local
sponsorship. The kind of people this conference attracts are really hard
to find.
