unable to format BD-R dvd+rw-format version 7.1

All,

I am having an issue burning BD-R media. From my understanding I must
format the media before laying down a file system (in this case UDF via
mkudffs)

Some system information first :-
$ uname -a
Linux pcb 2.6.30-gentoo-r5 #15 SMP PREEMPT Thu Nov 12 22:09:46 EST 2009
x86_64 Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 950 @ 3.07GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux

$ dvd+rw-mediainfo /dev/sr0

I have tried the following commands :-
$ dvd+rw-format /dev/sr0
RESULT =
* BD/DVD±RW/-RAM format utility by <appro@fy.chalmers.se>, version 7.1.

^ there is nothing more the application just exits.

$ dvd+rw-format -ssa=default /dev/sr0
RESULT =
* BD/DVD±RW/-RAM format utility by <appro@fy.chalmers.se>, version 7.1.
* 25.0GB BD media detected.
- illegal command-line option for this media.
- BD-R can be pre-formatted only once

^ there is nothing more the application just exits.

mkudffs will fail at this point as no media has been formated.

Can someone please assist me? I am sure its an issue with me rather then
the tools, I have tried diffrent BD-R media.

I can write, CD,DVD and BD-RE media ( i used growisofs for the BD-RE)
I don't want to use growisofs, as I want a UDF disk at version 201 and
mkisofs can only do 102.

Thanks
