I bet it's almost needless to mention that 2.6.8 introduced in certain degree unexpected change of programming interface, which is the culprit here. The problem will be addressed in upcoming dvd+rw-tools 5.21 update at the cost of "rewarding" dvd+rw-tools with set-root-uid capability. Note that it's not sufficient to set-root-uid 5.20.
