I agree with you: it's a waste of time for everyone. And the person
who asks has to wait someone explains he sent his question/remark at
the wrong list.

I wonder if hiding the email in the html archives could lower the
complain. I think it would be easy to transform the email field like:
john-doe@provider.tld -> john-doe AT provider DOT tld
It will not block everyone to understand the right email address and
the archive will not be found when searching the e-mail into a search
engine.

The RedHat archive does something equivalent. For example:
