There are GIF images still in use on the web site. Main culprits are the
title bars.
Binary transparency on PNG images does work in nearly browsers, so
conversion shouldn't be a problem.
Included on the home page are:
/Pics/about.??.gif
/Pics/news.??.gif
/Pics/distrib.??.gif
/Pics/support.??.gif
/Pics/devel.??.gif
/Pics/search.??.gif
There are 173 GIF images in the /Pics/ directory, many in /icons/ (the
icons from Apache), and three in /icons/debian/
Using 'display' from ImageMagick, it says that /Pics/about.en.gif uses
LWZ compression. I haven't tested any other images.

AFAIK, all patents regarding gif/lzw issues have expired. There
therefore doesn't seem to be any reason to get rid of gif pictures
anymore.
